Stump Grinding

Stump Grinding

There are a few different methods you can use for the removal of an unsightly tree stump from your yard, but none of them are as safe or as easy as calling Family Tree Care for stump grinding service! Here are some reasons we think that stump grinding is the best option for you. Removing or grinding a stump is a difficult task if you don’t have the right equipment. Unless you have a team of oxen handy, stump grinding is a job best left to the professionals. International Society of Arboriculture (ISA)-qualified arborists should do the job.

Jay Brock and Johnny Marth, Family Tree Care owners (Tacoma) are certified arborists. “We can quickly and safely remove any tree stumps on your property. When we’re done, I think you’ll wish you had called us sooner!”

Do stumps pose a risk?

Surprisingly (or maybe not!) a tree stump can pose a risk for you and/or your neighbors. On top of being unsightly, tree stumps also post several hazards.

  • A potential tripping hazard
  • Fresh stumps can cause unsightly regrowth
  • They may harbor disease that affects nearby trees
  • Stumps can attract unwanted insects such as bees, carpenter ants, or termites

The best way to avoid these hazards is to get stumps removed. Worried that it might leave a scar on your landscaping? Read on!

Why should I consider stump grinding over removal?

Stump grinding is our preferred method for stump removal because it does not deal with fire or potentially harmful chemicals. Methods such as burning or chemically rotting a stump put you and others in your vicinity at risk of harm.

What is the effect on my yard?

Unlike stump removal, stump grinding doesn’t leave a gaping hole in the middle of your landscaping. The wood shavings and soil left over from the stump grinding process are used to fill the hole where the stump once was! Therefore, there won’t be an unsightly gap in your yard and the stump will no longer be a hazard.

What is Family Tree Care’s method for stump grinding?

Our method utilizes a rototiller-type machine to slowly grind away at the stump, reducing the manpower and time needed for removal. Without the correct machinery and training it can take several days of labor to remove just one pesky tree stump!
